Deer Stand Deer Stand

As you can see, these pictures above are very creative, and we all have our own imagination to come up with some real good ideas of making our own deer stands the way we want them.

I've never made a blind from the bark of a tree, but from the looks of them, they will really work well, and there already a part of the outdoors.

I like to be at least 12 to 15 feet up, but higher is even better. I remember hunting a farm where they already had stands throughout the farm and almost all of them were at lest 20 feet up, and while I was hunting, I had 42 turkeys come right under my stand, so you see, the higher you are the better chance of the deer not seeing you or smelling you.

Sometimes it's very hard to get a bow shot because the deer can see most movements from any part of their eyes, but if your in a blind where they cant see you pull back your arrow, than this will give you an edge, and maybe you just might get the deer.

The more creative with your stand the better. I'm not saying just any stand is good, or bad, just saying, the more you use the outdoors stuff like tree branches, bark, or leaves makes a much better place to hunt from. The more you blend in, the more chances you have bagging your deer.

Do a Google search for deer stand images, and I know you will have some good laughs, because I saw a truck cab on four poles, a school bus mounted on steal poles, and a small camper trailer. To each their own, what works for them, great.

On those not so cold days, I prefer a ladder stand because I don't want to be closed in, and I know a deer might see me, but I like a ladder stand if it's not windy.

I used to just go in the woods and find an old tree that fell and set behind it and hope a deer would walk by, and I also walked around and stop, look for awhile and walk some more. I got a few this way but I like just being in a stand listening to nature. I especially like it when small game make noises and you think it's a deer coming your way.

Most hunters prefer to be high up and not on the ground, and that's alright, but I feel better when I'm up over 12 feet.

The bottom picture is a good platform for a blind to be setup on and I'm thinking about making me one just like it. I will build it much higher.

I'm in Kentucky where it's legal to put corn out on private property, and I'm not a big fan of corn, but sometimes you don't have a large area to hunt, so you have to bring them in to you. This is my case where I live now. I'm on a hill top with cliffs over hanging all around the back where I hunt. Deer can come up through the cliffs, and that's how I got a big 8 pointer with 18 1/2" spread, and my girl friend and I could not move it more than 5 feet. We got a couple of hunters down the road to help us.
